Hanging of the Greens on November 29: Plan to join us on Wednesday, November 29 for the annual “Hanging of the Greens,” during Covenant Connections where we all pitch-in to decorate the church for Christmas. On the menu for November 29 is a roast beef dinner. Don’t miss it! You are invited to join us each Wednesday for Covenant Connections where we enjoy a delicious dinner and connect with church and neighborhood friends. The cost is $6.00. Dinners are served from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. We’ll save you a meal if you alert us that you will be late! A 45-minute “program” or “activity” begins at 6:15 p.m. Please call the church office with your reservations no later than Monday at 12 noon for that week’s dinner.
First Covenant Opens its Doors for Downtown d’Lights & Art Gallery Night on Friday, December 1: Expect to hear music filling the Sanctuary of First Covenant on the evening of December 1 from 5 pm to 10 pm. The Covenant Choir and Covenant Bells are performing along with other contributors to celebrate the beginning of Advent and the lighting of Perry Square in downtown Erie that evening.
Advent Luncheon on December 3: You are invited to join our church family for an Advent Luncheon on December 3 after the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service to kick off the Season of Advent! Come & enjoy one of Chef Jackie Jones’ delicious soups plus salad, bread & dessert! At this luncheon, families, couples & individuals will make their very own advent wreath to take home. We will learn about the meaning behind advent wreaths & how to make use of them in preparation for Christmas, sing Christmas songs & enjoy one another! If you are interested in joining us, RSVP to Anne in the church office 814-456-4243. The cost is $5 per person and $2 for children 5 years of age and younger. The last day to RSVP is Sunday, November 26.
Deacon’s Christmas Food Baskets: During November, the Deacons of First Covenant are once again collecting nonperishable canned goods and boxed items to supplement the Christmas Food Baskets. The baskets will be provided for our church members and regular attendees who might need some assistance as we approach the Christmas season. Donations can be dropped off at the 7th street entrance from NOW through December 5. The baskets will be gifted on Saturday, December 9. Please see the list below for needed items. We would like to thank you in advance for your kindness in making someone’s holiday a blessed and joyful one. Erie Chamber Orchestra at First Covenant for Christmas Concert: The Erie Chamber Orchestra (ECO) performs its annual Christmas concert December 9 at First Covenant. Once again this year, the ECO is scheduled to perform a number of concerts at First Covenant. The ECO has a new Music Director this season, Bradley Thachuk. First Covenant is pleased to partner once again this year with the ECO and Gannon University. The Erie Chamber Orchestra offers quality music and our facility is accessible to all. ECO concerts are provided at no charge. This special Christmas concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Erie Philharmonic Chorus is performing the Messiah on Tuesday, December 12 at Covenant: Contact the the Erie Philharmonic for tickets to this event. The cost is $20 per Adult and $10 per student.
December Toy Drive: During the month of December, we are collecting NEW UNWRAPPED toys, books, and stuffed animals for families at that attend Sunday Suppers. You can either drop off your donations at the church office in December or bring them up during the Christmas Pageant Worship Service on December 17, which is also the last day for the collection. December 17 is also a combined worship day with one Worship Service at 10:00 a.m. We are also in need of people who are willing to wrap gifts or serve as shopping helpers for customers at the Covenant Christmas Store during Sunday Suppers on December 17. For more information, contact Britney Knight at 814.456.4243 x112. Last year, we collected toys, books, and stuffed animals to provide for over 100 children in our community with gifts for Christmas. The need is even greater this year. Please consider a donation to the Toy Drive.
Children’s Christmas Pageant on December 17 at 10 AM: You won’t want to miss this annual event presented by the children of First Covenant. Rehearsals started in early October in preparation for “Christmas in the Country.” The children are leading this Worship Service. The is the only Worship Service on December 17 at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome. If you are interested in helping with costumes, sets or in any way, contact Monty Service at 456-4243 x107.
Advent and Christmas Worship Services: Worship Services during Advent are as follows: December 3 and 10 at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and December 17 and 24 at 10:00 a.m. only. On December 17, there is only one Worship Service at 10:00 a.m. featuring the Children’s Christmas Pageant. This year the theme is “Christmas in the Country.” This is also the last day for the December Toy Drive. Donations can be brought to the front of the church during this service, or anytime in December before December 17. There is also a Candlelight Christmas Eve Worship Service on Sunday, December 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. This Worship Service features all the choirs at Covenant and the singing of ‘Silent Night” by candlelight. You are welcome to celebrate Advent and Christmas at Covenant.
