10 Years of Our Neighbors’ Place!
We will begin the tenth season of sheltering those experiencing homelessness when we open the doors to Knox Hall on Wednesday, November 17. One difference this season is that we are sharing each two-week session with the Erie area United Methodist Churches. This means First Covenant will host the shelter for one week at a time on November 17 – 23, January 5 – 11, January 26 – February 1, and February 23 – March 1. The Methodists will host at First Covenant the week immediately following. Volunteers will be needed from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. each night and from 5:30 – 7:30 a.m. each morning. Again, because of distancing Covid-19 protocols in our limited space, we will not serve a full meal in the evening. Instead, we will offer guests a hearty snack that can be eaten at their cot. The exception will be Saturdays, a “food gap” day downtown: a boxed dinner will be offered to eat at the cots. Additionally, we will serve takeout breakfasts. Please pray about how you can be involved in this ministry. Please contact Dale Sweet if you would like to volunteer and contact Pat Tracy if you would like to provide food.
