Mission In Action: Our Neighbor’s Place Returns…
Support Our Neighbors’ Place Overnight Shelter: Starting Wednesday, November 21 and continuing nightly to Tuesday, December 4, this is the seventh year that First Covenant has opened its doors for the shelter. This year all members of the congregation are encouraged to get involved and support this “Mission In Action.” There are many ways to support the shelter. You can donate your time. There are three different shifts to cover, contact Dale Sweet at [email protected]. This year organizers have a special need for the following items: men’s winter coats, blue jeans, winter boots & gloves, and sweatshirts. There is also a special “Undies Sunday” coming up on November 18. On that day, please donate new men’s undershirts and/or boxer style briefs, sized medium to extra large. The Shelter Donation Trees are also up near the office and in the main hallway. These trees contain tags with various items that are needed to run the shelter. You can also make a monetary donation by contacting the business office. There is also a special request for volunteers to help run the overnight shelter at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 643 West 17th Street, December 5 to December 18. If you can provide a meal for about 55 guests to be served at 8:00 p.m. please contact Pat Tracy at [email protected] and if you can help cover one of the shifts please contact Dale Sweet.
Our Neighbors’ Place, overflow shelter, returns to First Covenant again from February 13 – 26, 2019. Our Neighbors’ Place will also set-up in Knox Hall again from January 2 – 15, 2019 and March 13-26, 2019, and will be hosted by United Methodist Churches.
It takes an entire congregation to run a shelter and we cannot thank you enough for opening your hearts,
your schedule and your pocketbook in support of Our Neighbors’ Place.
Joy and peace, Dale and Pat
