August 1 is your chance to engage the church’s neighbors at “National Night Out.” “National Night Out” is held the first Tuesday of August in towns and cities across the United States to highlight and celebrate community safety, and to enhance the relationship between local police officers and residents. This year’s event is Tuesday, August 1 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Gridley Park, just a few blocks west of FPCC. The evening features a live band, a light picnic meal, community-oriented vendors and activities for all ages.
For the third year, First Covenant is hosting a Children’s Play area on the west-side of Gridley Park, near the playground. Volunteer attendants are needed to two “bounce houses.” We’ll also provide a couple of fun relay-type games. If you can staff a bounce house or relay game for an hour, either 6-7 p.m., 7-8 p.m. or 8-9 p.m., please contact Seph Kumer at 456-4243, x105 or Seph.Kumer@firstcovenanterie.org Additional volunteers from First United Methodist, Luther Memorial and St. Paul’s Episcopal are all slated to assist with the evening in various ways.
“National Night Out” provides the church with a great opportunity to share who we are and what we experience inside of the walls at 250 West 7th St., with residents in our neighborhood. It is an example of the church going “where the people are.” Participation in events like “National Night Out” makes FPCC more relevant and accessible to its neighbors. Sometimes God uses our service at events like this to help us understand God better! Sign up today to help engage “Our West Bayfront” residents.
