Mark 10.46c-47, 49-51
…Bartimaeus son of Timaeus (or “son of honor”), a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside.
When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth; he began to shout out…, ‘”Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!”…Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.”
And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.” So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus.
Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher, let me see again.”
“What do you want me to do for you?” What an amazing question. A few verses before in Mark 10, Jesus asks the same question of two of his disciples. Here it’s another outsider, one who knows of Jesus and won’t be silenced in his desire to know him better. Jesus begins with a question, a very important question: “What do you want me to do for you?” What would you like Jesus to consider for you?
At First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant we’re learning to trust dialogue with Jesus.
We invite you to join with us in learning.
