Josh Heikkila is the PC(USA) Missions Regional Liaison for West Africa and he will be in Western Pennsylvania as a speaker for the New Wilmington Missionary Conference in July. You will get to hear him preach at First Covenant on Sunday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m.
Bill Tauber and Seph Kumer will travel to Ghana with the Lake Erie Presbytery in early September. Josh will be the host in Ghana for the team representing several Lake Erie churches, including General Presbyter David Oyler. Many of those traveling in September will be present in Worship on July 23 and the group will have a small lunch gathering with Josh that day.
West Africa has tremendous challenges. But the Christian churches of West Africa are some of the most dynamic on the continent, and they are committed to addressing the many problems that people of faith confront. The PC(USA) has partnerships with churches in three countries in West Africa. In Ghana PCU(USA) historical roots go back many years. There are newer partnerships in Nigeria and Niger. Josh is responsible for maintaining relationships with all the partner churches.
Before serving in West Africa, Josh served for five years as an associate pastor working with youth at a large Presbyterian church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Josh served as a Young Adult Volunteer for the PC(USA) for a one-year term in Ghana, where he learned the Ewe language. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and received a Master of Divinity from the University of Chicago. Joshua is ordained as a PC(USA) minister of Word and Sacrament.
Josh has a wealth of stories to share of how God is at work in and through the people of Ghana. He will share about God’s call on his life, how ministry in Africa has changed his life forever, and how he experiences the worldwide Church in ways that challenge and encourage him. The Mission Team at First Covenant is excited to welcome Josh Heikkila!
