“What Can I Do?”
Jesus Christ and the Dividing Wall: Race and God’s Mission
To help us become a “Matthew 25 church”, join over 350 churches across the country Wednesday nights in October at 7:30 p.m. for a special Pittsburgh Seminary World Mission Initiative Conference- Jesus Christ and the Dividing Wall: Race and God’s Mission. Find it hard to talk about race? Not sure how faith and race are connected? Want to know more in order to do better as Christ’s faithful disciple? October is Racial Justice month.
These provocative presentations are for all of us:
October 14: “Journey to Reconciliation
October 21: Where Do We Go from Here?”
October 28: “Keys for Allies to Use Their Superpowers:
The Role of Vulnerability & Compassion in Anti-Racism Effectiveness
Presenters include the Rev. Dr. Brenda Salter McNeil, Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, and Dr. David Campt. Salter McNeil is an author and professor with more than 30 years of experience in the ministry of reconciliation. Wilson-Hartgrove is a sought-after speaker who founded the Rutba House, where the homeless share community with the housed. Campt is considered a national expert in the areas of inclusion and equity, cultural competence, and intergroup dialogue. Each session is a zoom webinar. Sign up with Pastor Britney and receive the zoom link: britney.knight@firstcovenanterie.org After the zoom webinar concludes around 8:10/8:15 p.m., you will leave that zoom webinar and join a breakout zoom session with other members from First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant where we will get to ask more questions, discuss, and learn from one another.
But the learning does not stop on Wednesdays! This month you are invited to a 21-Day Challenge on Racial Equity beginning October 1. If you join us on Wednesday nights, you will have four days checked off! Go to the 21-Day Racial Equity Challenge page created
by author Debby Irving: https://debbyirving.com/21-day-challenge/ There you will find articles, podcasts, videos, music, and so much more to reflect on during the Month of October. Invite a friend to do this with you. And do not hesitate to call one of the staff on our ministry team to bounce your findings or reflections off of! This is another way we are living into the mission of Matthew 25.
