August 2017 Update
Students return to Gannon University on August 23. First Covenant is smack-dab, right in the center of Gannon’s campus footprint. What an amazing opportunity God gives us to love and serve students in Jesus’ name! How will you be a part of God’s exciting work among Gannon students through FPCC?
Campus Ministers Abby Blankenship and Kyle Schumacher return to the Kirk House in early August from their summer sessions with college students in Ocean City and Philadelphia. Abby and Kyle plan to share stories about their experiences during the “Moment for Ministry” during the Worship Service on August 20th.
New Kitchen at the Kirk House: Over at the Kirk House, construction continues on installing a new kitchen. The original Kirk House kitchen is gone and soon the residents can enjoy updated cabinets, counter tops, flooring, and lighting.
“Smooth Move” Event August 19 & 20: Welcome Gannon University Students with “Smooth Move,” an outreach mission to help students move into their housing throughout the church neighborhood (including the Kirk House) the weekend of August 19 & 20. Classes begin on August 23rd. Help make this a “smooth move” by welcoming students for a couple of hours. Teams of church members are invited to meet at the church on Saturday, August 19 at 9:00 a.m. and Sunday, August 20 after the 10:00 a.m. Worship Service to greet students, distribute bottles of water and deliver invitations to the 9th Annual FPCC Block Party on August 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Kirk House Cookout Needed Helpers: Help Abby and Kyle with the Kirk House (Gannon-wide) Cookout for hundreds of students on Friday, August 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Join in to help flip burgers, welcome students, answer questions, and share a homemade dessert.
TGIF -Thank God It’s Franks! on September 8: Be a night-owl and greet Gannon students on Fridays beginning September 8. Share grilled hot dogs, veggie burgers and water bottles with students as they walk through the church neighborhood from 10:00 p.m. to midnight. For a few seasons this has proved to be a very significant way to engage students. First Covenant brings God’s love to students where they are, instead of waiting for students to show up in Worship. It has led to the development of long-standing relationships with students. This outreach mission has also given FPCC a reputation for renowned hospitality and community service among Gannon university faculty and students.
Contact Abby Blankenship (724-561-4482) or Kyle Schumacher (330-631-7948) to offer your help with Smooth Move, the KH Cookout or TGIF. Campus Ministry is all about relationships, meeting & greeting & hanging out with students.
This is not only Abby & Kyle’s “job”…it’s God’s call for each of us at First Covenant. And by the way, it is hardly a “job”…it is so much fun!
