Covenant Preschool Now Accepting Applications for the 2013-2014 School Year
As I sit down at my desk and write this morning the children are all in their classrooms celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. During the night, a sneaky little leprechaun snuck into our classrooms and was very mischievous. The children found green footprints, chairs knocked over and toys left out and golden chocolate coins.
The teachers are getting the children ready for spring, the real meaning of Easter, and of course… the Easter Bunny. This month we have the Erie Zoo coming to the classrooms to visit the students. They will be bringing the smaller animals from the zoo to teach the children about animal habitats, foods they eat and other fun facts.
We are currently accepting applications for the 2013-14 school year, if you would like to visit the preschool just call Lisa Hiegel at 456-4243 and we can schedule a tour. We would love for you to become a part of our “Covenant Preschool Family.” Remember to “like” us on Facebook—

First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant is also the home of Covenant Preschool, Erie’s oldest continuously-operating preschool. Bright, cheerful classrooms and warm, loving teachers provide a Christian environment for your child’s educational experience. Emphasis is placed on social development, building self-esteem, and developing a positive attitude toward learning. Classes are available for 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds; for more information, call Covenant Preschool on weekday mornings at 456-4243 Extension 226.
Covenant Preschool, established in 1949. is the oldest existing, continuously operating preschool in the Erie area. Programs are offered for two, three, four, and five-year-old children. Class size is limited to allow for individual care. Two-year-old classes have a maximum of ten children. Three-year-old classes have a maximum of fourteen children; four and five year-old-classes have a maximum of twenty children.
There are two teachers in each class. Teachers are carefully selected to provide loving guidance. They are enthusiastic, experienced, and dedicated professionals interested in helping children grow. All lead teachers have degrees.
The teachers and director meet monthly as a staff to share ideas and plan. They have two in-service programs each year. The director works with the teachers to insure an exceptional program. The director also serves a liaison between the church, teachers, and parents and is available to discuss any concerns.
Parents are kept informed of preschool activities through monthly newsletters, bulletin boards, and parent/teacher conferences. Two parent night programs are hosted each year to provide information to parents and to assist them in forming social bonds with one another.
All preschool classrooms are spacious, bright, and cheerful. They are arranged to encourage exploration. Centers for art, music, reading, block building, dress-up, and kitchen work are available in each room. Observation windows allow parents and professionals to unobtrusively view the child in the classroom setting at any time.
The preschool provides a large, fenced playground, bikes, and other riding toys, indoor play equipment, a parent resource library, guest speakers, and field trips. There is also vision, hearing, and speech screening conducted for early detection of problems.
Tuition assistance is available for families with financial need.
Recognizing that much of a child’s intellectual and creative ability develops before formal education begins, Covenant preschool seeks:
-
to provide an enriching transition between home and full-time school by building self-esteem and developing a positive attitude toward learning in each child.
-
to promote social interaction by building healthy relationships with others, developing self-control, self-motivation, independence, responsibility for actions, and a sensitivity to the world around.
-
to offer spiritual development for the children of God by encouraging preschool families to become involved in a faith community; teaching children that they are created, loved and cared for by God; teaching children that through the Bible and Jesus Christ we are able to know who God is; and teaching children that because God first loved us, we need to love him, each other, and care for his creation.
