Come Hear the Music at First Covenant
First Covenant is hosting six of ten Erie Chamber Orchestra concert dates during its 39th season. The free Saturday evening concerts attract 350 to 600 guests. Sanctuary renovations made a decade ago provide remarkable acoustics for Orchestra music and comfortable seating for concert attendees. Originally founded in 1978 by the late Bruce Morton Wright as the “Erie Bayfront Orchestra”, The Erie Chamber Orchestra (ECO) is under the auspices of our neighbor and community partner Gannon University.
ECO has two dates left for the 2016-17 season with performances at First Covenant: May 13 and June 3. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and conclude about 9:15 p.m. We’ve heard it said: “How do we get folks inside of our building?” Each concert is an opportunity where lots of visitors ARE coming inside our historic building. Some are from our neighborhood and others come from across town. How might we extend hospitality? Though the orchestra pays a fee to use our space, could there be a way for First Covenant to welcome the orchestra and guests? Provide a couple of volunteer “hosts” stationed in Art Gallery Hall/Narthex on the nights of the concerts? Become a financial benefactor? The Fellowship Committee has suggested a possible reception for the series-concluding June concert. Have another idea? If you would like to be part of, or have other ideas for, a “welcome brigade” contact Britney or Seph in the church office.
